Getting online
For the longest time, an online presence was something that many businesses saw as little more than a bonus. However, times have changed, and now, if you're not online, you may as well not have a business in the first place. Where they might once have used something like the Phone Book, many people now almost exclusively use sites like Google to search for a business. If you want your business to get noticed, then you need to be able to stand out from the crowd online. You need a website with well-integrated SEO, a blog to give customers an idea of who the people in your business really are, and social media pages so that you can communicate with customers and keep them informed at all times.
Finding the right people
You can't run a business without people; it's a simple as that. Unless you're running a tiny boutique store out of your living room, you're going to need staff to help you. And even if you are running a small business entirely on your own, you're probably going to need to outsource things like your branding, web design, and finances to other people anyway. It's important to form relationships with people that you trust so that you can be sure that your business is always in safe hands.Understanding your customers
An issue that many business owners face is the moment where they realize that they may have a fantastic product, but they have no idea who to sell it to. The target audience for your business should be something that you lay out very clearly as early as possible. Make it part of your business plan. You should spend time doing a lot of market research on what kind of person is actually going to be interested in your product. Don't just think in vague terms either, get specific about the kind of customer that you're aiming for. Think about everything from age, to gender, to the kinds of businesses they currently interact with
