Sometimes, it’s not a lack of sophistication that holds back our business; it’s that we try to be too sophisticated. While it’s important to have a smart approach to how you run your company, it can also be to our detriment. For some areas of our business, it’s better to have a simplified, streamlined approach. Doing so allows us to put our energies into the factors that make or break the success of our company.

Treat Time As You Treat Money

Some companies can get too focused on the bottom line, and fail to realize that how we spend our time can be just as important. Take a look at how your office is operating each day: how much time is wasted? By this, we don’t mean for how long are employees talking, but more how you’re working. For example, study after study has shown that meetings are, by and large, not a productive way to spend time. It could also be that your working hours aren’t conducive to your employee’s most productive working hours. Be open to changing how you spend your time, and you may see a noticeable improvement in productivity.

Improve Your Operations

Most of the time, how we work just happens. Only when we take a step back, do we see that they’re detrimental to our end goals. As such, it’s important to review your practices to see if they can be improved. For instance, it might be your office is overflowing with customer and employee files, which you need to have but don’t use on a day to day basis. Having these on-site can cluster your office and make it difficult to find the documents you do need, costing time. Instead, have them located off site; visit page to find out more information how. Elsewhere, you might still be relying on outdated communication systems for your work communication and collaboration. Look at updating your internal systems - such as adding intranet or cloud storage - so that your workers can better communicate.

Outsource Where Possible

You can’t do everything. If you have a small team, then you don’t have the manpower you need to do all the things a business needs to take care of. If you’re bogged down with repetitive tasks, look at outsourcing them and free up your employee’s time so they can do the job they were hired to do. Other tasks that are more advanced and time heavy, such as payroll and bookkeeping, can also be outsourced. You’ll be able to focus on your company’s core operations with peace of mind that the important company stuff is taken care of.

Go Traditional

We live in a world that relies on technology and hard work, but it doesn’t always have to be like this. There’s something to be said for incorporating some traditional practices into your workplace. If you’re a business owner, try leaving at a set time every day; your mind will be better rested and creative for doing so. Also, cut out the wifi and use your brain every now and again. It’s where creativity is born.
