Major Mistakes Businesses Make When Going Mobile
Any self-respecting entrepreneur knows that a business has to go mobile if it wants to be successful. Without a mobile platform, there is no way to tap into the ever growing customer base that uses tablets over desktops. And, that is a missed opportunity that is bound to break the back of a lot of companies. Still, jumping into the mobile industry isn’t the answer because there are pitfalls that you need to avoid. If you don’t, it could be just as bad as not having a platform in the first place. So, with that in mind, here’s what not to do when developing your firm’s mobile strategy.

Thinking Everything Else Is Obsolete

There is no doubt that mobile technology is quickly becoming the market leader. What with the amount of people that use tablet and smartphone devices, this is obvious. Still, that doesn’t mean that the features you used in the past do not work any longer. It just means they are not as effective as they were in the past. Sure, they may be old, but they aren’t obsolete. So, neglecting your desktop site, for example, is a bad move. After all, people still use it, and it still acts as an advertisement for the company’s brand.

Not Testing Software

If you’re going mobile, you will almost certainly invest in an application. Quite simply, this is the next step from browsing the internet and it is growing with each passing day. The problem is not investing in an app, but assuming it will work. Apps are an effective tool, as long as they add value to the customer experience by using software quality metrics. They are the apps that are always online and don’t suffer from bugs. Plus, the navigation is spot on and the upload speed is rapid. The only way to instill these features in your app is to test the app before it goes live.

Rehashing Website

The easy option is to make your current site smaller. That way, there is no reason to waste time and money. And, it will work just as well as a modified version, right? No, it won’t because customers aren’t looking for a site that regurgitates the same old stuff. Instead, they want a mobile site that provides small yet effective tweaks to enhance the experience. One example is web design. Revamping the design element for the site is an excellent way to add a sense of freshness.

Including Non-Mobile Friendly Techniques

Once you build a mobile platform, the features have to link seamlessly. Otherwise, the experience will be clunky and disjointed. Sadly, creating a mobile-friendly URL link won’t solve the issue. To ensure everything is smooth, you need to omit things like PDF files and infographics. Because the screen is much smaller, the graphics don’t tend to work as well as they do on a laptop or desktop screen. For more info, check out the features that you should never include.

Avoid these errors and your mobile platform should hit all the right spots.
