Fighting the Fight: Being a Competitive Freelancer

It is not easy being a freelancer. It requires a significant effort and dedication to the cause. It's not just about developing your income stream, but it's about making sure that you improve your finances while also retaining that fighting spirit. This is where it gets tricky for many individuals. Being competitive is something that doesn't come naturally to many individuals. If you want to be a successful freelancer, you've got to learn the art of being competitive, but what are the best ways to go about this?

Develop a Solopreneur Mindset

Being a freelancer is, for many individuals, catering towards their personal and emotional needs. The best thing anybody can do to flick that will switch on in their brain that drives them is to treat themselves as if they are a business. Ultimately, becoming a freelancer is running a business but you are the company, commodity, and talent. Start to think this way and treat yourself as if you want a business rather than someone who is picking up again, and then another one, and then another one. You can certainly learn the art of being competitive by slowly dipping your toe into the competitive world. For example, there are freelance websites where you have to learn how to showcase yourself properly. Even websites that provide delivery driver jobs demand a certain sense of competitiveness when it comes to bidding. And you can click here to see more on this side of things. But gradually, whether you are working on your own side hustle or you are looking for ways to get more work in your main stream of income, it's all about treating yourself as if you are a business.

Increase Your Emotional Intelligence

It’s not just about certain skills in your desired field, but it's about improving your emotional intelligence. We live in a world where everybody can get skills and improve their portfolio. But you've got to tap into the thing that makes you an essential commodity. Learning how to be competitive is not about starting fights, but it's about learning the fine art of communication. There are technical skills that we can all learn but the interpersonal ones, such as active listening, empathy, and, most importantly, getting on with other people are just as crucial. In certain areas this can be more crucial. If you can show a person that you can learn skills easily this is fine but if you can show people straight away that you are the type of person that they would rather work with over some genius who doesn't know how to string a sentence together, this will always work in your favor. And this is something that we should always bear in mind when we are putting ourselves forward for jobs.

Being competitive is part and parcel of the freelance world, and now we have to learn the competitive side of things. But don't be fooled, it's not always about putting up your dukes! Competition is not just about the battle, but it is about the war.
